Dehradun. The central government has become active in the campaign to convert Namami Gange project into a sustainable development model like ‘Earth Ganga’, with a focus on economic activities related to the national river Ganga. Under this, steps will be taken to strengthen the ecosystem of tributaries of Ganga across the country as well as economic development of about 4500 villages along the Ganges. In this, Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO) will provide technical support. The agreement between the National Clean Ganga Mission (NMCG) and HESCO will be signed soon.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested Earth Ganga in the meeting of National Ganga Council held in December last year. This project is now being implemented. Under it, along with the conservation and promotion of tributaries of Ganga, it is intended to provide better benefits to the villages along the Ganges besides treating their catchment areas. That is, both ecology and economics have to be strengthened. In this episode, the National Clean Ganga Mission is now going to join hands with HESCO.
Actually HESCO is working on rural technology in various states including Uttarakhand, in the areas of river, forest, energy as well as development of villages. In April last year, the Director General of the Mission Rajiv Ranjan Mishra visited Shuklapur in Dehradun to observe HESCO’s technology. It was also indicated that Hesco’s technology will be used to promote ecology and economy under the Namami Gange project.
According to Sko founder Padmabhushan Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi, the agreement between NMCG and HESCO has been drafted to speed up the campaign of Earth Ganga. It will be signed soon. After this, resource personas will be prepared by HESCO to strengthen the economy of villages along the Ganga. These will help Hesco share the technology related to rural development with the villagers and take them down on the ground. Apart from this, other steps including rainwater conservation will be taken in the watershed areas of tributaries of Ganga.
