KANPUR: An accused involved in the Bikeru murder case hanged the neck in a dramatic manner and arrived at the Chaubepur police station on Saturday to surrender. It was involved in the killing of 8 policemen on the night of 3 July.
Accused Umakant Shukla had apologized for his crime while admitting that he was involved in the Bikeru murder case on Takhti.
During this time, his family members also requested the police to save his life. The Chaubepur police has taken the accused into custody.
The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh and the Kanpur police were already eyeing Umakant, they also raided many of its possible targets.
The Kanpur police claimed in a press release on Saturday night that the surrender of the accused happened due to the vigilance and constant raids by the police, which put a lot of pressure on the accused.
Police said that Umakant had a cash reward of Rs 50,000. During interrogation, he confessed that he had indiscriminately fired on the police team along with Vikas Dubey and his associates Amar Dubey, Atul Dubey, Prem Kumar Pandey, Buan Dubey, Prabhat Mishra. Vikas Dubey and his companions have been killed in separate police encounters.
Umakant said that he felt his guilt, and the police were continuously raiding every possible location, so I decided to surrender.
He said that Vikas Dubey, the main accused of the massacre killed in a police encounter on July 10, was a ‘demon’ and a ‘terrorist’.
Explain that Umakant is one of the nine accused who have either been arrested or who have surrendered till now. The search for the remaining six named accused is on. The accused are Chhotu Shukla, Shiv Tiwari, Vishnu Pal Yadav, Ramu Bajpai, Hiroo Dubey and Bal Govind.
