In the first Test match being played between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru, Team India was all out for just 46 runs. India’s batting remains the center of discussion, but meanwhile Virat Kohli’s batting order has also come into the limelight. Kohli usually comes to bat at number-4, but against New Zealand he came to bat at number-3. Now former cricketer Dinesh Karthik has slammed coach Gautam Gambhir for sending Kohli up in batting.
Former cricketer furious
During a discussion on a media organization, Dinesh Karthik said, “I am not defending Virat Kohli. He has such technique and passion, which makes him one of the greatest batsmen in history. If I make a change in the team, then I will keep the batsman at the same order where he can do well. This change will not happen because I want to defend Kohli.” Karthik continued his talk and said that Kohli comes at number-3 in ODIs, opens in T20 and now it can be said that the ball has changed in Test cricket, in which there is not much movement. Karthik clearly said that the best place for Kohli to bat in Test cricket is number-4.
If not Kohli, then who at number-3?
Dinesh Karthik also suggested that coach Gautam Gambhir should have promoted KL Rahul instead of Virat Kohli at number-3. According to Karthik, Kohli himself should have opposed the coach’s statement and said that he wants to continue batting at number-4. According to the former cricketer, KL Rahul can prove to be a better option as a number-3 batsman.
It is also worth noting that Virat Kohli’s statistics at number-3 are not very good. He has played 7 innings batting at number three in Test matches, in which he has been able to score only 97 runs at an average of about 16.
