After the breakup of the opposition alliance India formed for the Lok Sabha elections, bad news is coming one after the other for the Congress.
Now in UP, Vibhakar Shastri, grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, resigned from Congress and joined BJP. He gave information about his resignation on social media site X.
Before this, Milind Deora had also left Congress. At the same time, in Maharashtra, former CM Ashok Chavan has also resigned from the party.
Vibhakar Shastri failed to handle the legacy for the third time
In the 1980 Lok Sabha elections, when the Congress was in power, Harikrishna Shastri, the elder son of the country’s second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, contested the election from the parliamentary constituency. He won the elections by defeating Liaqat Hussain of Lok Dal and also joined the Central Government Cabinet.
By laying the foundation of industrial revolution in the district, Shri Shastri tried to make the area his stronghold. Due to this, in the elections of 1984, the public again elected him and sent him to the Parliament. In the elections of 1989 and 1991, he could not stand against VP Singh who had brought up the issue of Bofors.
After the demise of Shri Shastri, his son Vibhakar Shastri came forward to save the legacy from this seat. Vibhakar contested elections from Congress in the year 1998 but could get only 24,688 votes. He tried his luck again in the year 1999, in which he was able to get 95 thousand votes and in the year 2009, he was able to get one lakh votes. Even after three attempts he could not save his father’s legacy.
