new Delhi. New Zealand batsman and captain Sophie Devine has created a new history in women’s T20 cricket. She has become the fastest cricketer to score the fastest T20 century, scoring an Atishi century off just 36 balls. Sophie held this world record while playing for Wellington Blaze during the New Zealand Super Smash.
The New Zealand captain, playing for Wellington, scored 108 runs off just 38 balls to reach the team’s target of 129 runs in 8.4 overs. Batting first, Otago’s team scored 128 runs at the loss of 7 wickets. Haley Jason scored the highest 35 runs while opener Miley Cowan scored 29 runs. Jess Kerr and Leigh Kaspareg took two wickets each for Wellington.
Sophie records Atishi’s century
Sophie did this with just 36 balls, setting a new record for a century in T20 women’s cricket. Batting stormy, this batsman faced only 38 balls, scoring 9 fours and as many sixes, with an unbeaten innings of 108 runs to give the team a big win of 10 wickets. Sophie’s strike rate was 284 during this innings.
Record for fastest women’s T20 century
Sophie broke West Indies’ Diandra Dautin’s record in women’s T20 cricket with the help of this fiery innings. Playing against South Africa in 2010, the Windies batsman scored a T20 century off 38 balls. Sophie made it to her name after scoring a century off 36 balls. However, this record was made in the New Zealand domestic tournament, so the record of International Women’s T20 century is still in Dotin’s name.
