After winning five seats in Bihar Assembly elections, the AIMIM said that the party is now looking forward to spread its foot in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal as well. Addressing reporters on Tuesday night, MIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi said that the party would fight for justice in the northern state of Seemanchal region. Reacting to the allegation that the parties opposing the BJP have split the vote, Owaisi said that he is running a political party and the party has the right to contest elections.
When asked if his party will contest elections in other states too, he said, “You say we should not contest.” AAP (Congress) sat on Shiv Sena’s lap in Maharashtra. Did anyone ask why you contest… I will contest every election in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and the country. Do I need to get approval from anyone to contest the election. ”He, however, did not clarify whether the party would contest elections alone or in alliance with other parties. Owaisi said, “AIMIM will contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022. Only time will tell whose allies we will be. ”The Congress and other parties call AIMIM the‘ B team ’of the BJP and have been critical of Owaisi for dividing the votes of anti-BJP parties. According to political analysts, Owaisi’s AIMIM heavily influenced the RJD-led grand alliance’s votes in Seemanchal region in the third phase of the Bihar assembly elections.
Owaisi’s party contested 20 seats in Bihar, most of which were voted on November 7. AIMIM is part of the Grand Democratic Secular Front. This alliance also includes Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Samata Party and Bahujan Samaj Party. According to Election Commission data, there were over four crore voting in Bihar and out of which 1.24 percent votes have been received by AIMIM. The party’s performance in the Bihar assembly elections 2015 was poor and managed to get only 0.5 per cent of the vote. At the same time, MIMIM’s performance was not good in the 2017 assembly in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from Telangana and Bihar, the party has two MLAs and one MP in Maharashtra.
