New Delhi Boxers in India move towards professional boxing when they capture some big titles in the amateur circuit. But the young Faizan Anwar has taken the opposite path. He is starting his career as a professional boxer and has won a few matches and is now eyeing the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The 19-year-old Anwar, who comes from Kolkata, feels that doing professional boxing will prove beneficial for him in three rounds of amateur boxing at the Olympics.
Anwar said, “Professional boxing starts with four rounds and each round is three minutes. Training is very difficult. In training, we wear short gloves and the punch is very strong. You need to be in professional boxing. It takes a lot of stamina and strength to live. ”
He said, “I am currently competing in six rounds and by 2024 I will play the full 12 rounds. If I come back from there to amateurs where there are three rounds, I will find it easier.”
The Indian Boxing Federation (BFI) has said that professional players who want to participate in the Olympics will have to be part of the Indian pool. This means that Anwar will have to come in amateurs.
Anwar coach Mujtaba Kamal has said that he has not yet decided on this. Anwar is currently focusing on his professional circuit where so far he has played five matches and won five.
Anwar’s recent victory in JR of the Philippines. Came against Menadoza. He is looking to challenge Britain’s Sahir Iqbal for the WBC World Youth title next year.
Anwar said, “Nothing is sure yet, but my next contest should be in December. I have not yet found my opposition. We are concentrating on my technique and fighting a lot. I don’t know Who is my next opposition, so I am preparing to play against both left and right handed boxers. “
