new Delhi . The Uttar Pradesh Police recently arrested four alleged members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) going to Hathras from Mathura. Now the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is about to go to jail and interrogate him. Sources gave this information. The police arrested four people from Mathura last Monday night when they were going to Hathras from Delhi. He is reportedly associated with the PFI and its affiliate organization Campus Front of India (CFI).
The four have been identified as Atiq-ur Rehman of Muzaffarnagar, Masood Ahmed of Bahraich, Alam of Rampur and Siddiqui, a journalist from Malappuram in Kerala.
The Uttar Pradesh Police has also seized his mobile phone, laptop and some important papers. Police seized all such material from them, which could have affected the law and order situation.
An ED official said that the Financial Investigation Agency has been investigating the role of the PFI for the past few years, including the involvement in the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the violence in North Delhi in February last year.
The official said that the agency would soon visit Mathura jail and record his statement.
The officer said that a case has been registered against him by the Uttar Pradesh Police under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and now the officials of the central agency will inquire with him whether there was any money laundering in this case.
When the officer was asked if the ED would file a new case against him under the PMLA, the officer did not say anything on it.
The official said that the agency would conduct an inquiry if the PFI provided funds or other assistance to those involved in the disturbance following the death of a 19-year-old Dalit girl from Hathras.
Hathras girl, allegedly a victim of gang rape, died in a government hospital in Delhi on 29 September.
Earlier, the Yogi Adityanath-led government blamed the PFI for violent protests in the state against civil laws.
