new Delhi. The Supreme Court will hear a public interest litigation seeking to provide food and proper health facilities to children and lactating women. The petition calls for the reopening of Anganwadi centers, which have been closed due to Corona.
A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan has issued notice to the Central Government and all the states after hearing the petition of Deepika Jagataram Sahni. It has to be answered in four weeks. “We will hear the petition,” the bench said. In the petition, the closure of Anganwadi centers has created a serious situation in front of poor children, pregnant and lactating mothers.
Sahni has said in her petition that the closure of more than 14 lakh Anganwadi centers across the country is neither providing proper food nor benefits to other facilities to poor children and lactating mothers. In such a situation, the top court should direct all parties, including the Center and the states, to provide food and health facilities to them.
