new Delhi. The membership of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has crossed 33 lakh. In the ABVP Central Working Committee meeting it was told that this is the record number so far in terms of membership. In the year 2019-20, ABVP broke its own record by enlisting 33,39,682 students. Earlier, the organization had around 3 million members.
Several current issues were also discussed in this virtual meeting of ABVP held in Indore. Changes in student life due to corona epidemic, organization’s contribution in fighting corona, national education policy and final year students and competitive exams like NEET-JEE etc. were discussed.
The meeting gave information about the service work of ABVP during the Corona period. It was reported that 59939 workers distributed 3010951 food packets, 3,17,553 ration kits, 5,83,689 masks. Also, 5,612 units of blood donation were also done by the workers.
ABVP National President Dr. S. Subaiah inaugurated the meeting online. He said that the corona epidemic is a terrible disaster, but we also have to learn a lesson from it. We need to adopt the values of Indianness, hygiene, proper diet, and the use of Ayurvedic medicines being done since ancient times to strengthen immunity to avoid such diseases in future.
He said that in this difficult time, citizens of the country, activists of government and ABVP did excellent work from Kashmir to Kanyakumari as Corona warriors. In Mumbai, Pune and Indore, ABVP activists screening the Red Zone were appreciated. Corona also showed that radical changes are needed in our education system to fight such challenges. The National Education Policy, which emphasizes holistic education, is an important step in this direction.
ABVP National General Secretary Nidhi Tripathi said that, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad had submitted memorandum to the Prime Minister, Education Minister and Chief Ministers of various states, Education Ministers keeping the interest of students in the corona period. Even today, the province-wise helpline number is helping thousands of students. In the examination of NEET-JEE, ABVP issued helpline numbers to the students keeping in mind the problems of traffic and stay around the examination venue.
