The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is investigating a ‘drug angle’ in the case of Sushant’s death. Highly placed sources in the NCB told IANS that important clues have been collected after questioning Abbas Lakhani and Karan Arora, who supply drugs to several Bollywood celebrities in Mumbai.
Based on the leads NCB received, it would launch a nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking in Mumbai and cartels involved in other major metros.
The entire operation is being monitored by Rakesh Asthana, a 1984-batch IPS officer who busted one of India’s largest international cocaine syndicates operating from Colombia last year to detect large drug syndicates and cartels.
Top sources in the NCB said that electronic evidence collected by the bureau during interrogation of Abbas Lakhani and Karan Arora showed that leading Bollywood celebrities were not only supplied with ganja (marijuana) or buds (buds), but also High quality cocaine was also being pushed into the film industry.
NCB officials are gathering more evidence in connection with the case, which will eventually result in a ‘nationwide coordinated crackdown’ against drug cartels, hawala operators and major peddlers in supplying drugs to some of the most famous celebrities in the film industry Is included.
Based on WhatsApp chats by Bollywood actress Riya Chakraborty, the girlfriend of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, NCB has also nabbed the owner of a Bandra eatery named Zaid Vilatra in connection with the supply of buds.
The link between Zaid, Abbas and Karan is established later. The NCB has also found important clues in the interrogation of another suspected Basit Parihar.
Drug connection investigation in Sushant Singh Rajput case has so far revealed that apart from supplying buds, some cocaine cartels operating in Mumbai were also supplying high quality drugs to various filmstars.
Cocaine, priced at Rs five crore per kilogram, is a highly expensive party drug, usually supplied to high-profile customers in metros.
In Sushant’s case, WhatsApp chat suggests that only the buds, which come much cheaper than cocaine, were being distributed.
A source said that during his constant questioning, the peddlers revealed that cartels operating in Mumbai were also supplying cocaine to some customers.
Asked about being sent to high-profile clients, including drug film celebrities in Mumbai, Asthana refused to divulge any information.
Asthana has investigated a number of top cases including the much-discussed fodder scam during his CBI tenure. “We are very sensitive in this matter. We cannot share any information at this time. If there are further arrests, the agency will inform,” he told IANS.
Sources said that a team of skilled officers has been prepared by the senior IPS officer to investigate the drug angle by NCB in Sushant’s case. The team will investigate the intoxicating angle of the mysterious death of the Bollywood star. Sushant’s case has been mired in controversy ever since Sushant was found hanged at his Bandra residence on 14 June.
The death case is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the case has been investigated by the top anti-drugs agency Drug Angle.
