Manchester. A 139-run match for the sixth wicket between Chris Woakes (84 not out) and Jos Buttler (75) helped Pakistan host three wickets on Saturday on the fourth day of the first Test match played at Old Trafford ground here Took a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series. Pakistan scored 326 runs in their first innings, bowling England out for 219 in their first innings and taking a 107-run lead on the first innings basis. However in the second innings, Pakistan’s team could not do much more and scored only 169 runs and set a target of 277 runs to win in front of England.
Chasing this target, England scored 55 runs for one wicket in the first session. But in the second session, he lost his four wickets quickly and by tea time his score had been five wickets till 167 runs.
However, after tea, Butler and Woakes, playing an innings, gave England the victory. Butler, who came under attack from the critics for his poor form against the West Indies, took full advantage of the occasion and completed his 17th half-century in a career-filled innings.
England needed 21 runs to win the match when Butler was lbw to Yasir Shah. Butler hit seven fours and a six off 101 balls. Stuart Broad scored seven runs off nine balls with the help of a four.
Dominic Bess, who came to bat after Broad’s dismissal, teamed up with Vox to give England a three-wicket victory. This is Pakistan’s seventh consecutive defeat outside the home.
Vox completed his fifth half-century of his career. Vokes hit 10 fours off 120 balls.
Apart from them, captain Joe Root scored 42, Dominique Sibley scored 36, Rory Burns 10, Ben Stokes nine and Ollie Pope seven.
Yashir Shah from Pakistan got four wickets while Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Abbas and Naseem Shah got one wicket each.
