Khagadia. Five people have died after a boat capsized in the upper reaches of the Gandak river in the Mufassil police station area of Khagaria district of Bihar late Tuesday, while 10 are still reported missing. The missing people are being searched. A police officer said on Wednesday that several villagers of Sonavarsha Tikarampur were returning to their village after returning from their boat in Mansi Bazar, buying materials they needed, when the boat capsized in the middle of the Gandak river.
Ranjit Kumar, in-charge of Mufassil police station, told IANS that many people swam out safely after the incident, but many were reported missing. After this relief and rescue operations were started.
He informed that NDRF has also been engaged in this work. He further informed that so far the bodies of five people have been taken out of the river, while still about 10 people are being reported missing. Relief and rescue work is in progress.
