New Delhi: A meeting of Congress MLAs is to be held today at the resort of Jaipur amid the ongoing political crisis in Rajasthan. This meeting is considered important in the midst of hearing the petition of rebel MLAs in the HC. There is speculation that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot may go to the floor test option. At the same time, today is considered very important for Sachin Pilot and 18 other rebel MLAs. The petition camp MLAs are to be heard again in the High Court today. It is hoped that some concrete decision may come today.
Important information related to the case:
The legislature party is scheduled to meet this morning at the Fairmount Hotel in Jaipur. About 100 MLAs of the Gehlot camp are staying in this hotel. Gehlot is considering his government as safe due to the support of 103 MLAs.
Sachin Pilot is going through a tough test of his political journey. The decision of Rajasthan High Court on the petition of rebel MLAs will have a significant impact on their political life. The hearing on the petition has started again in the Rajasthan High Court.
During the hearing on Monday in the High Court, arguments were presented on both sides. Advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the rebel MLAs, said, “Issuance of disqualification notices for dissent within the party is a violation of freedom of expression.”
Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Speaker CP Joshi, said that the MLAs of the Pilot camp cannot approach the court until the Speaker of the Assembly decides on the notice. “The Speaker and the Legislative Assembly are not yet under the judicial review of the court,” he said.
The Legislature Party meeting was called twice on behalf of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, in which the pilot and his camp did not participate. After this, a notice was issued against him for anti-party activities. The court said during the hearing that Congress cannot compel MLAs to attend the meeting.
The legislator and former minister of the Sachin Pilot, Vishwendra Singh, released a video on Monday, in which he said, “The manner in which the Rajasthan government is strangling democracy is not hidden from anyone.” Day before yesterday I was his cabinet minister and today I have been charged with SOG, ACB cases.
On bribery allegations, former deputy CM Sachin Pilot said he was ‘sad but not surprised’. The MLA, who joined the Congress from the BSP, accused Sachin Pilot.
If the rebel MLAs are disqualified, the majority figure in the 200-member assembly will be reduced and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will get an easy chance to save his government.
Sources associated with the Congress legal team said that if the decision of the High Court comes in favor of the Pilot camp, then the party is planning to call a session of the assembly as the next step.
Recently, Congress has claimed majority in the assembly. Congress sources did not rule out the possibility of convening the assembly session. The party’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that it is the prerogative of the state cabinet and the chief minister to decide about it and “they will take the appropriate decision.”
