Bengaluru In a swift action, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) team took Swapna Suresh and her partner Sandeep Nair into custody here for their alleged involvement in the Kerala gold smuggling case.
A city police official said on Saturday, “NIA officials have taken Swapna and her accomplice (Sandeep) into custody from a city house for an alleged role in smuggling 30 kg of gold from UAE to Kerala this week . ”
Both will be taken on transit remand to Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on Sunday and produced in a local court for police or judicial custody.
Swapna, a former employee of the UAE Consulate in the Kerala capital, is among the four accused against whom the NIA has filed a case for alleged involvement in smuggling gold from Dubai via diplomatic baggage to Thiruvananthapuram on July 5.
Swapna and her companions were absconding since the case came to light and an FIR was filed against them.
The NIA on Friday took up the case and lodged an FIR against the accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The other two accused, P.S. Sarith and Fazil are Farid.
