new Delhi. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has revealed how veteran batsman Sachin Tendulkar always sent him to face the first ball and himself stood at the non-striker’s end. The opening pair of Sachin and Ganguly scored 6609 runs in 136 innings in a 50-over match from 1996 to 2007. It has 21 centuries and 23 half-century partnerships.
In the conversation when Ganguly was asked that when you started the innings in ODIs, did Sachin Paji always ask you to play the first ball?
Ganguly responded by saying, “Always. He always did that. He (Sachin) had an answer as well. I used to tell him to face the first ball occasionally. I always had to play the first ball. You say. They had two answers. ”
He said, “First, ‘I think I am in good form and I should stay on non-striker’.” At the same time, if the form was not good, then his second answer was, ‘I should stay on non-striker, this reduces the pressure on me.’ They had only one answer for good or bad form. ”
Ganguly also said that once he forced Sachin to play the first ball.
The former captain said, “Unless you get ahead of him and stand on the non-striker, now Sachin is on TV and now he has to play the first ball. It has happened once or twice, I will go ahead of him and go to the non-striker end.” But stood up. “
