new Delhi. The Indian Premier League ie IPL is the most expensive and top level league in the world. The league has earned a name in the last decade. In this league, not only the players, but the team and the BCCI also receive money. The IPL 2020 was to be held from 29 March, but due to the corona virus, the league has to be postponed indefinitely, but now the design of the league is being re-designed.
In view of the global epidemic, it is not possible to organize the 13th season of IPL in the recent past, but it is possible to organize the league after the next few months i.e. at the end of the year. Several reports have suggested that the BCCI is trying its best to host the tournament at the end of the year to avoid an estimated loss of Rs 4000 crore. This is also true, but the BCCI treasurer has given a befitting reply to the critics.
IPL is often called the ‘money making machine’. The tournament has changed the face of T20 cricket, but it is seen by many as a mere occupation. Many have suspected personal financial gain over BCCI’s intention to host the tournament this year. In such a situation, the treasurer of the board, Arun Dhumal, has said that the money of IPL goes to the players and not to the officials of BCCI.
Dhumal said that IPL has provided financial stability to the board and the players, while also providing employment to thousands of people from outside the region. Apart from this, BCCI treasurer also believes that IPL has also given a boost to the travel and tourism industry. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Dhumal has said, “There is a whole buzz that IPL is a money making machine, so be it. Who takes that money? That money goes to the players, that money goes to any office bearers. That money does not go. In the context of the welfare of nations, the travel and tourism industries, in terms of payment of taxes, industries reviving. ”
He went on to say, “Then why protest for the money? Money is given to the players and all those who are there to organize the tournament. The media has to change the stance and tell about the benefits of this tournament which is happening If BCCI is paying thousands of crores as tax, it is going to nation-building, it is not going to Sourav Ganguly or Jai Shah or myself. So you should be happy that spending money on sports being done.”
