new Delhi. The film ‘Bulbul’, directed by Anvita Dutt, did not use features such as long hair, inverted legs, hunger for blood, desire for revenge to portray the woman in horror or show her a ‘witch’.
Rather, Anvita has used all these traits to tell the story of an unjust woman who takes a ‘devi’ (goddess) avatar to take revenge on those who snatch her innocence. She stands for oppressed and abused women.
She wants to change this definition through her thriller film ‘Bulbul’.
Anvita explained, “Little girls in India have to hear this word a lot. When you walk down the aisle, your hair is open, you speak loudly you are a ‘chudail’. Someone who is not understood , Who doesn’t fit into a box then becomes a witch. It’s a lack of understanding and acceptance. Whenever you don’t understand something, you’re afraid of it. ”
‘Bulbul’ is a period drama, which is based on the story of a ‘chudail’.
It released on Netflix on 24 June. It is produced by Anushka Sharma and her brother. It also stars Trupti Dimri, Avinash Tiwari, Rahul Bose, Paoli and Parambrata Chatterjee.
