New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to interfere with the Allahabad High Court’s order to whitewash and paint the outer part of Sambhal’s Shahi Jama Masjid. The court has rejected the petition challenging the High Court’s order to take the money for whitewash from the mosque committee. This order was given by a bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, refusing to consider the petition filed by a devotee Satish Agarwal. Satish Agarwal had filed a petition, in which the High Court had directed ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) to whitewash the outer walls of the mosque and it was said that its expenses should be taken from the mosque committee. Arguing on the petition on Tuesday, lawyer Barun Kumar Sinha said that the High Court’s order to take the cost of whitewash from the mosque committee is not correct. This mosque is under the protection of ASI and ASI has a maintenance fund, ASI should spend on whitewashing, but the bench, without paying any attention to his arguments, said that it will not hear the case of whitewashing. The bench dismissed the petition and said that it is not willing to interfere in the order of the High Court. Seeing the negative attitude of the court, the lawyer asked the court for permission to withdraw the petition and go to the High Court, but the court did not give any order in this regard either.
