Former Bangladesh cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal has announced his retirement from cricket. Tamim was the highest run-scorer and highest century scorer for Bangladesh in international cricket. He scored more than 15,000 runs and 25 centuries in his career. The Champions Trophy 2025 was approaching, then suddenly his decision to retire is really shocking. He told through a social media post that the chapter of cricket in his life is over.
Tamim Iqbal shared a post on Facebook, in which he wrote, “I have been away from international cricket for a long time. This distance cannot be erased now. My chapter in cricket is now over. I was thinking about this for a long time. The Champions Trophy was getting closer, but I do not want to distract the team by getting into discussions again.”
Let us tell you that Tamim Iqbal first announced his retirement from cricket in the year 2023, but the very next day he changed his mind on the call of the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Tamim was not included in the 2023 World Cup squad, while the then captain of the team Shakib Al Hasan described his act as ‘childish’. This week, Tamim Iqbal met the selectors, who wanted to include him in the Champions Trophy squad. Current captain Nazmul Shanto also urged Tamim to come back.
Tamim Iqbal said that his time in the Bangladesh cricket team is over now and it is time to retire. He is currently playing in the Bangladesh Premier League. He is the captain of the Fortune Barishal team and his team is currently in second place in the points table.
