Bahraich. Muslim youths pelted stones on the idol immersion procession in Maharajganj town of Hardi area on Sunday. They started firing when the devotees protested. In this, a devotee involved in the procession died due to bullet injury, while more than 15 people were injured. After the incident, people became angry. Arson, vandalism and stone pelting also took place on the spot.
Immersion procession stopped in the entire district
As soon as the information about the matter was received, the immersion procession was stopped at various places in the entire district. The villagers protested by raising slogans by placing the dead body in front of the medical college in the city. Police and PAC of many police stations are deployed on the spot. Many top officials including DM-SP have also reached the spot and are trying to convince.
CM Yogi said – Those who spoil the atmosphere will not be spared
CM Yogi said that those who spoil the atmosphere in Mahsi of Bahraich will not be spared. The Chief Minister, while instructing the officials, said that identify the miscreants and take strict action. CM Yogi said that idol immersion should continue and he also said that by communicating with religious organizations, idol immersion should be done on time. CM said that we guarantee safety to everyone. He has instructed the government and police officers to be present on the spot.
One youth killed in firing
When the immersion procession reached Maharajganj town of Hardi police station, people were chanting slogans while the procession was passing in front of Abdul Hameed’s house. During this, stones were pelted on the idols. On protest, the miscreants started firing. In this, 22-year-old Ramgopal Mishra, resident of Rehua Mansoor village of Ramgaon police station, was seriously injured.
He was rushed to the medical college. He died here. During the incident, more than 15 people including Rajan, resident of Rehua Mansoor, Sudhakar, resident of Tiwaripurva, Divyang Satyavan and Akhilesh Vajpayee, resident of Siphiya Puli, were injured. After the incident, the atmosphere in Maharajganj became tense.
Arson and vandalism in protest
Arson and vandalism started in protest against the incident. Police also had to use force to control the miscreants. As soon as the information about the whole case was broadcast on the internet media, the idol immersion procession was stopped at various places in the district. After the death of the youth in the city’s medical college, people put the body on the road and protested and raised slogans against the police administration. The devotees also stopped the procession at the hospital intersection and insisted on demanding strict action.
The idols to be immersed at Chahalarighat on the Sitapur-Bahraich highway were stopped. The villagers also blocked the Bahraich-Sitapur highway. The immersion procession was also stopped on the Bahraich-Lucknow highway in the Fakharpur police station area, due to which a long queue of vehicles was formed on both sides of the highway for several kilometers.
Till the time of writing the news, the atmosphere in the entire district is tense regarding the incident. In the entire matter, an attempt was made to know the side of the DM, SP, ASP Rural, DIG and ADG of Devipatan Mandal by messaging on phone and WhatsApp, but no response was received from the officials.
