New Delhi: Defeating India in a Test series has been a dream for the current generation of Australia and in the last 10 years, it has not been able to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy even once. The Australian team led by Pat Cummins, who won the World Test Championship title by defeating India, will try their best to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy this time.
Australia’s experienced batsman Steve Smith says that what did not happen in the last 10 years will happen now. Australia will have to end India’s dominance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by winning the trophy again.
The Kangaroo team won in 2014-15
The Australian team has not been able to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since 2014-15. Since then, it has lost the series twice in a row at home. In 2020-21, India made a brilliant comeback and won the series once again despite being all out for 36 runs in Adelaide. After a spectacular win over Melbourne, India won the Tests at Gabba, while the Sydney Test was a draw. India now has to play a five-match series with Australia in November.
India and Australia are the two best teams
Smith said, “India and Australia are the two best teams in the world at the moment. We played the final of the World Test Championship last year and won the title by defeating India there. The Indian team has shown a great game in the last two series in Australia, but hopefully this time we will beat them. We have not won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for 10 years and this time we will win it.”
Before Smith, Australian spinner Nathan Lyon had also said that we have not been able to win the series for the last ten years and this time we are hungry to win the series.
Smith wants to represent in the Olympics
Steve Smith wants to represent Australia in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, which will be played in T20 format. Smith was left out of the T20 World Cup squad in June this year, but the veteran batsman is committed to his T20 future.
Smith said, “I will continue to play T20 cricket for at least the next four years. This is a format that I can play for a long time apart from other formats, especially in franchise cricket. I have signed a three-year contract with BBL and the Olympics will be after a year. I want to be a part of the Olympics, it will be a great experience.”
