Sultanpur. Sub Inspector Mahendra Yadav of Border Security Force, who took on the Pakistani army, was posthumously awarded the President’s Police Medal after about eight years. In the decoration ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval decorated the martyr’s mother Maryadi Devi with the medal.
Gave a befitting reply to the terrorists
Mahendra Yadav of Malikpur Nonra village was posted as Sub Inspector in the 156th Battalion of Border Security Force. In the midnight of 7 August 2016, a group of about eight to ten terrorists, taking advantage of the bad weather, crossed the Line of Control from Pakistan and reached the water point of Bhuri Wala in Jammu and Kashmir.
On 8 August 2016, at about 5.45, the terrorists started firing with automatic weapons on the sentries present at the front. The soldiers of Border Security Force and 17 Sikh Regiment started retaliatory action.
Platoon Commander Mahendra Yadav gave a befitting reply to the terrorists without caring for his life. He threw a grenade towards the east to thwart the entry of terrorists inside the post.
Despite heavy firing, Mahendra moved towards the front and kept giving instructions to fire on the terrorists. During this time he was injured by the terrorists’ bullet. He stood firm till the last breath of his life.

In the letter of appreciation, President Draupadi Murmu has written that Mahendra remained dedicated to indomitable courage, leadership and duty till his last breath. His sacrifice is exemplary and exemplary for his subordinates.
