In UP, the Forest Department team of Bijnor has arrested five smugglers for smuggling a rare species of snake (Red Sand Boa). A snake has also been recovered from them. The Forest Department has registered a case against the smugglers under the section of Wildlife Protection Act and arrested them.
According to Gyan Singh, SDO of Bijnor Forest Department, the team of the department had received information from an informer that some smugglers were arriving in a car near village Haspura located on Noorpur Moradabad road to smuggle a rare species of snake. On this information the car was checked. There were five people present in the car. During checking, a snake (Red Sand Boa) was recovered from him.
The Forest Department team arrested all the five accused of snake smuggling, Arjun, Mohan, Tarun, Basuma and his partner Siyanand. Kamini Devi, a woman involved in smuggling, is currently absconding.
According to the arrested smugglers, these people had bought the snake only on the advice of Kamini Devi. He had to sell this snake to Kamini Devi. Kamini had gone with the promise of arranging the money but before that the forest department team caught the smugglers. The team has also started searching for his other associates. A case under Wildlife Protection Act has been registered against all of them.
The SDO of the Forest Department said that the recovered snake is called two-headed snake in the local language. Its price is lakhs of rupees in the international market. It is used in medicines to enhance sexuality. Therefore its demand is huge abroad.
