Lucknow. The Central Government on Monday issued a notification regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). In this context, the Police Headquarters has issued orders to the police of all the districts to be on high alert.
Besides, anti-riot squads and PAC personnel have been deployed in Muslim dominated districts and districts which have been hit by violence earlier. DGP Prashant Kumar has said that the police is fully prepared to maintain law and order. Last week itself, the police had prepared an action plan in this regard.
In 2019, violence spread in many districts of the state in protest against CAA. In December 2019, 23 people were killed in violent protests in Firozabad, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Rampur, Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Sambhal, Bulandshahr, Aligarh and Bahraich. 343 FIRs were registered in connection with the violence in these districts.
840 people were arrested for inciting violence. Therefore, this time the police have already made strong security arrangements in these districts. Apart from internet media and WhatsApp, people’s activities are also being monitored on other mobile apps including Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Signal.
DGP Prashant Kumar said that the police will not allow anyone to take the law and order situation of the state into their hands. There is an atmosphere of peace and investment in the state. It will not be allowed to spoil. Wherever there is a possibility of disturbance, the police have deployed PAC.
He said that instructions have been issued to the police of all the districts to be on high alert. At the same time, instructions have been given to deploy PAC along with anti-riot squads at sensitive places and keep an eye on them through drone cameras.
The DGP has also instructed police officers to increase foot patrolling. Instructions have been given to increase the security of all public places, bus stations, railway stations, government buildings. Police vigil has been increased in view of Ramzan.
He said that 24-hour police surveillance is being maintained at all religious places. Instructions have been given to take strict action against those posting objectionable posters or writings on walls anywhere. Besides, the district and police administration have been instructed to remain in touch with religious gurus to maintain peace.
Police also keep an eye on infiltrators
In the last few years, Uttar Pradesh has seen the highest number of infiltration cases as compared to other states. In particular, more than 90 Rohingya Muslims coming from Bangladesh via West Bengal have been arrested on charges of infiltration and coming to Uttar Pradesh on the basis of fake documents.
Anti-Terrorism Squad has busted the gang of Deoband (Saharanpur) and arrested more than a dozen Rohingya Muslims. More than 40 Rohingya Muslims who came with them are being searched. In July last year, ATS had arrested 74 infiltrators by conducting a campaign in the entire state.
