Kanpur. Barra police station’s history-sheeter Ajay Thakur, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh, was arrested by the SWAT team of DCP South from Delhi. DCP Ravindra Kumar himself is returning to the city with him. Ajay was absconding after he was attacked and stoned at Apna Dal’s rally on January 28. In search of him, the police team had reached Attari border a few days ago but Ajay had left from there.
The criminal history of Ajay Thakur, resident of Jarauli Phase-One, was increasing day by day. In the year 2016, the first case was registered against him in Barra police station for assaulting a youth and demanding money and threatening him. After this, in the same year, five cases were registered against Ajay under sections of assault, Arms Act and extortion.
Formed a separate gang after bail
After coming out on bail, he did not reform but formed his own gang, through which he used to extort money from minor students and through his associates, he used to extort money by luring minor girls and women. Complaints kept coming against him continuously in different police stations but neither his recovery nor his dominance was decreasing.
Because of this the number of cases against him was continuously increasing. From the year 2016 to January 31, 2024, 26 cases have been registered against Ajay Thakur in Barra, Govind Nagar, Kidwai Nagar, Naubasta police stations under sections including rape, attempt to murder, gangster, rebellion, IT Act, criminal conspiracy.
Ajay was released from jail on bail only last month in an assault case. After this, to maintain supremacy, on January 28, along with his colleagues, he pelted stones, vandalized and carried out a deadly attack on Apna Dal SK workers and officials in Jarauli. Then a case of attempt to murder was registered against him and he absconded.
Used to make internet calls by switching off mobile
Ajay used to switch off his mobile phone and make internet calls from another mobile. Sometimes he used to make messenger calls and sometimes through WhatsApp calls and contacted some of his close ones and acquaintances to get information about all the activities of the police.
Got himself caught with the help of an influencer or was arrested by the police.
According to sources, Ajay was also in contact with some white-collared and influential people. Through them, he was putting pressure on the police officers not to shoot him and to surrender. Some influential people had also put a condition to the officer that if he did not shoot Ajay then he would get him arrested.
After this, the SWAT team of DCP South arrested him from Delhi on Wednesday. Although information was received that STF and Crime Branch were also involved in searching for him, but Ajay Thakur could not be found.
Victim spoke to CWC, we need legal and financial help
On January 30, a case was registered under POCSO against the accused including Ajay Thakur, his associate Anshu Singh Sengar, Abhay Bhadauria, who carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh and demanded money for circulating the video of a girl taking bath in Barra area. The victim’s brother made serious allegations against former investigator SI Ravindra Kumar. It is alleged that despite repeated requests from the investigator, she was not recording her statement. She was asking for the birth certificate as an excuse.
A lot of efforts were made to get him expelled from school. On this the investigators kept calling the sister an adult. Gave him the birth certificate. Even after that, the sister’s age test was done and her age was shown to be 18 years, so that lighter sections could be included in the charge sheet against Ajay Thakur and his associates. At the same time, former investigator Ravindra Kumar told that the victim and her brother themselves were not giving the birth certificate. Then to increase the investigation, age test was done. Later he gave the birth certificate to the hospital.
…So was the certificate not posted in the school?
Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Chairman Dr. Nirmal Kumar Pandey said that the police had come to record the statement of the victim on Tuesday. He has sought legal and financial assistance from the High Court for not getting bail for the accused. His birth certificate was found in the hospital. A day before this, the police had brought his school ID card and sixth class diary. Also, there was a letter from the school, in which it was told that the birth certificate of the girl has not been submitted by her relatives.
