A case of gross negligence of Kanpur Development Authority has come to light in Uttar Pradesh. Here, due to the negligence of KDA officials, the authority has lost about Rs 55 crore. This amount is part of TDS in the compensation given to the farmers. It is alleged that there have been irregularities in giving compensation to the farmers for the New Kanpur City Scheme being established in Kanpur.
KDA officials have transferred the entire amount to the farmers’ accounts without deducting TDS. Now, after the matter has come to light, these officials are going door to door asking for return of TDS amount from the farmers. Let us tell you that New Kanpur City Plan was made 27 years ago to speed up the development of Kanpur. However, due to technical reasons, no progress could be made on this plan for a long time.
Launch of the scheme in a hurry
Meanwhile, KDA has launched this scheme just before the government came into effect of the election notification. In this sequence, compensation for the acquired land has been distributed hastily. In this haste, KDA officials made a big mistake. While giving compensation, the officials forgot to deduct TDS from the amount given to the farmers. In enthusiasm, the officers kept doing the registration and along with it, the money was also transferred to the accounts of the farmers.
There was excitement over the revelation of irregularities.
Recently, when the matter came to light during an internal audit, the officials were left stunned. A team was formed in a hurry and information about this disturbance was given to all the farmers’ homes. He was asked to immediately deposit the extra amount in KDA. Till now this whole matter was going on secretly, but the matter got exposed due to the letter of an officer. It is being told that the entire mess is worth around Rs 55 crore.
The first registration took place last month
According to the information, the first registry of New Kanpur City was created by former DM Visakh Ji. It took place in January 2024 during his tenure. Now the Finance Secretary has written a letter to the KDA Secretary regarding this matter. It has been said that no reduction in income tax has been proposed in the scheme. This directly falls under the ambit of irregularity. Along with this, FC had asked to stop the registry immediately.
New Kanpur City to be built on 153.21 hectare land
After this, local officials also came to know about this disturbance. Let us tell you that this scheme is being implemented on 153.21 hectare land in Singhpur Kachar, Sambharpur, Gangpur Chakbada, Hindupur between Mainavati Marg and Kalyanpur-Bithoor Road in Kanpur. So far, about 107 farmers have given consent to KDA for 18 hectares of land. The remaining land is already available with the authority.
There will be residential and commercial plots
Under this scheme, 1350 residential plots of 90 to 450 square meter area are to be developed. 222 plots are proposed here for commercial activity. Whereas separate plots will be developed for commercial use, hospital, school, multiplex. According to KDA Secretary Shatrohan Vaishya, this mistake happened due to the mistake of departmental officials and efforts are being made to correct it. The matter is being investigated to prevent recurrence of such mistakes. A special committee has been formed for this.
