Banda. An eight-member anti-corruption team caught Assistant Regional Manager ARM taking a bribe of Rs 11,000 from a contract driver in the name of acquitting him in the investigation and giving duty when the bus collided with a tree.
Powdered money was seized from the spot. The team took action on the complaint of the contract driver. A case has been registered against the accused officer of the Transport Corporation. The entire matter is being investigated.
This is the whole matter
Contract driver Naval Kishore, resident of village Padhari of Bisanda, had gone to Lucknow by taking bus number seven. On the way, while trying to save a cyclist, the bus collided with a tree in Gurubaksh Ganj.
The driver had complained to the Anti Corruption Chitrakoot Dham Mandal Police Station and said that ARM Laxman Singh was investigating the case. The driver was not allowed to drive the bus until November 29, but on November 30, the ARM reinstated him and allowed him to drive the bus on the condition that their investigation was still ongoing. If found innocent, he has been asked to take further duty. Alleged that ARM had demanded Rs 20 thousand from him in return for this. It has been decided to pay Rs 11,000 on showing inability.
This is how the anti-corruption team made a plan to catch
Anti-corruption police station in-charge Inspector Mahesh Dwivedi first prepared a strategy to catch the officer asking for bribe. The matter was informed to DM and other concerned officials. On this, Senior Assistant Mohd. was present with him as a witness from the Collectorate. Shakir and Public Information Clerk Jayshree were appointed.
The team asked the contract driver to go to the office at 12:40 pm on Wednesday and give the money. After the driver gave the money, the ARM along with Inspector Sabir Ali, constables Sharda Prasad, Devendra, Sachin etc. was arrested from the spot under the leadership of Inspector in-charge of Anti Corruption Team. 22 notes of Rs 500 each taken as bribe were seized from them.
Case registered after interrogation
The team interrogated for several hours in the anti-corruption police station located at Kotwali Nagar and Police Line in the matter of taking bribe. After undergoing medical examination in the district hospital, he was presented in the court. The inspector in charge filed a complaint and filed a case against ARM under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The seized notes have also been sealed. The inspector in charge said that the driver had complained about the matter as soon as he asked for the money. On which action has been taken against the accused officer. The case is being investigated.
