Bhojipura (Bareilly). Eight people in a car returning home from a wedding ceremony burnt to death in a horrific accident. Late Saturday night, the car went out of control, broke the divider on the Nainital Highway and reached the other side, and collided with a dumper coming from the front. Both the vehicles caught fire with a loud explosion.
The dumper driver escaped safely, but all the passengers in the car got trapped in the flames. The remains of their burnt bodies could be taken out late in the night. Police are suspecting that the accident occurred due to the car driver dozing off.
All bodies burnt completely, driver identified
SSP Ghule Sushil Chandrabhan, who reached the spot, said that it may take time to clarify the identity and exact number of people burnt in the fire. All the bodies have been completely burnt. Only the driver Furkan has been confirmed.
Had asked for a car to go to the wedding
Sumit Gupta, living in Ramlila locality of Baheri, is a grocery shopkeeper. He told that customer Asif, resident of Narayanangala village, often comes to the shop. He had asked for Ertiga car (CNG) on Saturday morning. It was said that nephew Furkan had to attend a wedding in Bareilly. Due to prior acquaintance, the car was given at Asif’s insistence.
According to police, Furkan and others attended a wedding at Faham Lane in Bareilly on Saturday night. At 10.15 pm he told some people at the function that he was going back home. At 11 pm, the car went out of control after moving one kilometer from Bhojipura police station.
Couldn’t get out because the door wouldn’t open
According to eyewitnesses, the speed of the car was so high that it broke part of the four-lane divider and reached the other side. At the same time, a dumper was coming from Nainital. He collided with the car at full speed. Within seconds the car caught fire. The people sitting in it screamed and asked for help, but were left stranded as the doors of the car did not open.
Some passersby proceeded to break the glass, but could not reach the car due to the high flames. Meanwhile, the dumper had also caught fire. Seeing the dire situation, some people brought fire extinguishers from the neighboring petrol pump. Tried to extinguish the fire with it, but could not succeed.
Two fire brigade vehicles were immediately called. The fire was extinguished after half an hour, but all the eight people in the car were burnt to ashes. There is also an eight year old boy among them.
CO Chaman Singh Chavda said that initial information has been received from car owner Sumit. He says that Furkan had taken the car saying that he was attending a relative’s wedding. There is no information about who was traveling in it.
Statements of the car owner and Furkan’s father contradictory
Car owner Sumit said that he had given the car only for use. Furkan had to attend the wedding along with his family, so he could not refuse. On the other hand, father Bhure told that Furkan was the driver of Sumit’s car for some time. There was talk of his attending the wedding, but all the family members are at home. The police should find out who were the people in the car.
Police say that the car owner is being interrogated. It is possible that he may be driving the vehicle on hire without taxi registration. Now you are misleading to avoid action after the accident.
All the passengers were left writhing in the locked car.
According to eyewitnesses, all the doors of the car were locked as soon as the fire broke out. The people sitting in it were seen struggling for some time, meanwhile flames and heavy smoke filled the air. Everyone got burnt within a few minutes.
The SSP said that it was difficult to understand even the size of any dead body, leave alone its identity. Small heaps of ashes were found on all the seats. It is suspected that the tank caught fire during the accident.
