Thanks to the lethal bowling of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav, India won by 100 runs in a low-scoring match against defending champions England. After playing first, India had scored 229 runs on the slow pitch of Lucknow. In response, the England team collapsed for only 129 runs.
The heroes of India’s victory were fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah. Both of them destroyed England’s top order in a low scoring match. Shami took four wickets. Whereas Bumrah made three English batsmen his victims.
England, chasing the modest target of 230 runs given by India, had scored 17 runs without taking any wicket in the first two overs. Then it seemed that England would easily achieve this target, but then in the fifth over, at the total score of 30, Jasprit Bumrah gave the first blow to England by dismissing David Malan. Bumrah also dismissed Joe Root on the very next ball. In this way England lost two wickets for 30 runs.
After this, Mohammed Shami broke the back of England by dismissing Ben Stokes for zero. Then Shami also bowled Bairstow. In this way, England, which had scored 30 runs without taking any wicket, lost four wickets for 39 runs.
The England team could not recover from these initial setbacks. Shami and Bumrah destroyed England’s top order while Kuldeep Yadav did the rest. Kuldeep gave the fifth blow to England by dismissing Jos Buttler on the total score of 52.
After half the team was out for 52 runs, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone started playing cautiously. However, they could not last long. England’s sixth wicket fell at the score of 81 in the 24th over. Mohammed Shami ensured India’s victory by dismissing Moeen Ali. After this, Chris Woakes was out on 10, Liam Livingstone 27, Adil Rashid 13 and Mark Wood was out on zero. In this way the entire English team was all out for 129 runs.
For India, Mohammed Shami took four wickets for just 22 runs with 2 maidens in seven overs. Whereas Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets for 32 runs. Apart from this, Kuldeep Yadav made two English batsmen his victims by giving 24 runs.
