New Delhi. India’s head coach Rahul Dravid on Tuesday said the team will definitely miss Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 but added that it is another big opportunity in his absence. When Rahul Dravid was asked about the replacement of Jasprit Bumrah in the World Cup team, he did not openly react to this too. He said that we still have enough time for this. However, he said about Mohammed Shami that he is there as a stand by.
The BCCI has confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will not play in the T20 World Cup but till now nothing has been said about his replacement. However, his replacement in the series against South Africa was Mohammad Siraj.
After the match, when the coach was asked about this, he said that “Who will replace Bumrah, we will have a look, we have time till October 15, so Shami is obviously on standby. But he is on our side.” Couldn’t play this series for him, which would have been ideal if he did. But he is currently in NCA, we have to get a report on how he is recovering and what is his condition after 14-15 days.
Further he said that we will take an update about this. Once we get his report, we and the selectors can decide on how do we proceed with it?
Talking about the match, South Africa beat India by 49 runs. Batting first, South Africa’s team scored 227 runs with the help of Riley Russo’s brilliant century, in response to which Team India got out after scoring only 178 runs. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were not playing in this match. Dinesh Karthik scored 46 runs for India.
