Ambedkar Nagar. Bhagwan Singh, a soldier of five Rajputana rifles, became part of the Indian Army in the year 1999. He was promoted to the rank of Naib Subedar. He was married to Deepmala Singh in the year 2003. They have a son Yashveer Singh and a daughter Smriti Singh. Both are studying now. Bhagwan Singh had come home on leave on June 8 last year.

Veergati was received during the grenade blast at Mendhar in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. His body has been kept at Army Hospital Udhampur, from where it will be brought to Varanasi by Army aircraft. After this, the army vehicle will be brought from there to the native village. There is an atmosphere of mourning in the village after the news of his sacrifice reached. There is an influx of consoling people at home.
The responsibility of looking after the family was on the shoulders: Bhagwan Singh used to work in the house. Father Mahendra Singh is a farmer. Mata Sanvari Devi is a housewife. He was the second among four brothers and three sisters. Elder brother Ram Singh, younger brother Dhananjay Singh, Mrityunjay Singh also do farming by staying in the village. The responsibility of looking after the whole family was on his shoulders. Two sisters are married. A groom was being sought for the younger sister Jyoti.
Administrative and police officers did not reach the village: Even after getting the information of the sacrifice, no administrative and police officer has reached the village so far. Roshni Yadav, Sub-Collector of Alapur told that I will go to the village after the body arrives. Where the dead body has reached and where the funeral will take place has not been given.
Possibility of reaching the body by Tuesday: Father Mahendra Singh told that in a telephonic conversation with the army officers, he told that the army plane will reach Varanasi airport late on Monday evening. The body is likely to reach the village by Tuesday morning. The father told that the last rites would be performed at Kamharia Ghat of Ghaghra river.
