Varanasi: A consignment of smuggled drug syrup going to Malda Town (West Bengal) was seized by the Drug Inspector and his team at the Cantt station. Action is being taken to send 16 smugglers found in the role of carriers to jail. The value of the recovered 3,355 Phensidyl syrup bottles has been estimated to be around Rs.7 lakh.
According to Drug Inspector Amit Kumar Bansal, he got information that a group of some youths were illegally carrying a large consignment of Phensidyl cough syrup to West Bengal. Showing readiness with his team, he kept an eye on the youths by siege at the Cantt station.
A group of youths were spotted and interrogated, the youths told that they were all going to Howrah. On this his bag was searched. In which Phensidyl cough syrup made from an element called codeine was recovered. A total of 3,355 bottles of Phensidyl cough syrup were recovered from all of them. All are hundred ml bottles.

Preparations were on to take the cough syrup from Varanasi to Howrah by Rajdhani train. The Drug Inspector said that the cost of the recovered cough syrup is Rs 6,88,815. Told that action was taken in this matter for a total of 16 hours. In the case, action was taken against 16 people by registering a First Information Report under Section 8/21 of the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985. In the case, five samples were collected for testing and analysis under the provisions of the Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Act 1945.
Broker arrested with Tatkal ticket at Cantt station
The illegal agent involved in the racket of rail tickets was arrested by the RPF from the main reservation center at Cantt station. A confirmed Tatkal ticket of Sabarmati Express has also been recovered in the search. RPF challaned under the sections of the Railway Act and presented it before the magistrate on Sunday.
According to the information received, a youth named Amit Kumar Tiwari, resident of Bardah (Azamgarh), was wandering outside the main reservation center during the immediate period. During the patrol in the premises, RPF sub-inspector Ramesh Kumar and constable Sanjay Yadav caught Amit on the spot of the informer. After questioning, a Tatkal ticket and a photocopy of a Tatkal ticket were found from the pocket. After confiscating the recovered material, the youth was challaned under the Railway Act.
