Lucknow. There is a strong opposition to the recruitment of youth in the army on a contract of four years. After the political parties, now unemployed with a large number of youth are making a ruckus on the Agneepath scheme of recruitment in the army. Along with the opposition parties, there are leaders of their own party against this decision of the government.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr as well as in Mathura, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, youth aspiring to join the army have demonstrated. The protesting youth demanded the cancellation of this scheme and raised slogans of ‘Take back the Agneepath scheme’. There is a growing resentment among the youth in Mathura against the Agneepath scheme for recruitment in the central government’s army. Hundreds of youths blocked the Agra-Delhi highway near Rapurajat village in Mathura. Traffic came to a standstill on the highway from both the sides due to the jam. Around 12 o’clock the youth blocked the Agra-Delhi highway near Raipura Jat. Due to this, those coming from Agra and Delhi stopped at Jahan. On information, police of many police stations have reached the spot. SDM Prashant Nagar also reached with additional police force to convince the youth on the highway.
In Bareilly, hundreds of candidates protested from the ARO center to the outpost intersection and then blocked the road at the outpost. Somehow the police picked them up and took them to Damodar Swaroop Park. There the candidates submitted a memorandum to the city magistrate. Candidates from more than a dozen districts including Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit say that the government is playing with the future of the youth by giving them four years’ jobs. The central government should immediately take it back. On Thursday, some youths created a ruckus near Somna Mor on the Aligarh-Ghaziabad highway in Gabhana against the Agneepath scheme for army recruitment in Aligarh. Three roadways buses were stopped and ransacked. Slogans were raised against the government. Tried to block. The youths fled when the police arrived. Police have taken three people into custody.
In Gorakhpur, hundreds of youths started protesting by taking to the road. The Gorakhpur-Khajni road was blocked for about one and a half hours, causing long queues for vehicles. Apart from this, the children who were going to jam the Gorakhpur-Lucknow highway at Kalesar Zero Point were pacified by the administration and police. During this there was an atmosphere of chaos for about an hour. Here on the information of the road jam, the police reached under the leadership of the SDM, after convincing the children, they were successful in getting the jam open. After this, the crowd of youth reached Kalesar Zero Point in Gida police station area. The youth who arrived in large numbers started trying to jam the Gorakhpur-Lucknow highway due to their demands.
BSP chief Mayawati, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav as well as Congress’s Priyanka Gandhi have termed this decision of the central government as dictatorial. All of them have said that the government should reconsider the Agneepath scheme. Under the Agneepath scheme of the government, about 46,000 soldiers are planned to be recruited this year in the Army, Navy and Air Force. The youth between the age group of 17 and a half years to 21 years will be given the name ‘Agniveer’.
