SP’s ally Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SubhaSP) is also pressurizing it to take a seat. The party has also made promises to some other leaders. In such a situation, there is a lot of tussle between the candidates of two seats.
13 seats of the Legislative Council are falling vacant on July 6. These include six seats each of SP, BJP and BSP three and one seat of Congress. Nomination papers for MLC elections will be filled by June 9. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on June 10. Names can be withdrawn till June 13.

SP is brainstorming on the selection of candidates for these four seats. According to sources, the names of Swami Prasad Maurya, who left the ministerial post in Yogi Sarkar 1.0 before the assembly elections in SP, and Sobran Singh Yadav, who left the Karhal Assembly seat for SP President Akhilesh Yadav, have been decided.
Apart from this, the names of MLC Balram Yadav, former Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary, former minister Ambika Chaudhary, former MLC Udayveer Singh, Dr. Rajpal Kashyap are also being considered. The party also has an old promise from former Saharanpur MLA Imran Masood, so his name is also in discussion. The SP will announce the candidates in a day or two.
Let us tell you that before the 2022 UP assembly elections, Swami Prasad Maurya, who was a cabinet minister in the Yogi government, had joined the SP along with many ministers and MLAs including Dr. Dharam Singh Saini and Dara Singh Chauhan. Akhilesh Yadav was given ticket to him from Fazilnagar assembly seat of Kushinagar. However, he was defeated by BJP candidate Surendra Singh Kushwaha. Swamy was defeated by 26 thousand votes.
