Ghaziabad. Terrorist Waliullah, convicted in the 2006 serial bomb blasts in Varanasi, was sentenced to death by the court of District and Sessions Judge Jitendra Kumar Sinha on Monday. On Saturday, the court had convicted Waliullah. In Varanasi, 18 people were killed and 50 were injured in the bomb blasts. Everyone was waiting for the court’s decision in this popular case.
Before the hearing, tight security arrangements were made in the court. Traffic has been stopped through three routes in the court. Only after checking through one way, they are being allowed to enter the court. In view of security, traffic has been stopped by deploying policemen on the gallery leading to the court of District and Sessions Judge.
Apart from the advocates associated with this case, no other advocate is also being allowed to approach the court of the District and Sessions Judge. Bomb disposal squad and dog squad are also present at the spot.
District government advocate Rajesh Chand Sharma told that on March 7, 2006, there were serial bomb blasts in Varanasi. The first bomb blast took place on the said date at 6.15 pm in the Sankatmochan temple in the Lanka police station area of Varanasi. Seven people were killed in this while 26 were injured.
On the same day, after 15 minutes at 6.30 pm, a cooker bomb was found near the railing of the Jammu railway gate in Dashashwamedh Ghat police station area. Due to the promptness of the police, the explosion was averted here.
In both these cases, the court has convicted terrorist Waliullah on charges of murder, attempt to murder, injury and dismemberment, Explosive Substances Act and terrorist activity, while the first class rest room at Varanasi Cantt railway station in GRP Varanasi police station area. The blasts occurred in front of the city, in which nine people were killed and 50 people were injured. The court acquitted him due to lack of evidence in this.
It is known that lawyers in Varanasi had refused to represent Waliullah. On 24 December 2006, on the orders of the High Court, the matter was transferred to Ghaziabad for hearing. Waliullah is a resident of Nalkup Colony located in Phulpur, Prayagraj.
