Kanpur. Hayat Zafar Hashmi, who is being told as the mastermind in the ruckus after the Friday prayers on the new road in the parade, and four of his key associates have been arrested by the police from Lucknow. He had absconded after the ruckus and the police was looking for him. Hayat and his accomplices were hiding in the office of a YouTube channel in Lucknow. On the basis of accurate information, the Crime Branch team of Kanpur Commissionerate arrested him. Police is now looking for Hayat’s connection with PFI.
Hayat Zafar Hashmi Maulana Mohammad Ali (MMA) of Kanpur is the President of Jauhar Fans Association and his name has come up in the past for trying to spoil the atmosphere. His name had cropped up after the riots in the city over the years. Even before the ruckus in Kanpur, he had made preparations to connect the people. He had fled after the ruckus after Friday prayers and the police were on the lookout for him.
In a press conference at the police line on Saturday, Police Commissioner Vijay Singh Meena confirmed the arrest of Hayat Zafar Hashmi, the national president of the Johar Fans Association. He said that the police investigation so far has revealed that Hayat and his accomplices had hatched the conspiracy to riot. After the disturbance, all of them hid in the office of a YouTube channel in Lucknow. On getting accurate information, the police caught him from Lucknow. His 6 mobiles and some incriminating documents have also been found.
The police commissioner said that in Manipur and West Bengal, a bandh was called by the Popular Front of India (PFI) on the statement of the BJP leader in the past, on the same date, a call was given for the bandh in Kanpur. On this basis, the police is investigating whether Hayat Zafar Hashmi’s connection is with the Popular Front of India.
The Commissioner of Police said that after the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act, the police got the connection of PFI in the investigation of the ruckus in the city. Five PFI workers were also arrested. Their details are also being extracted so that they can be informed about the relationship of Hayat Zafar Hashmi. The Commissioner of Police said that three cases have been registered in this case. Police will take Hayat’s remand for questioning by presenting him in court on Saturday.
A few years ago, Hayat had instigated the mother and sister to vacate the house and sent it to the DM office, where the mother-daughter put kerosene and set it on fire. Both were brought to LLR Hospital in critical condition. Mother and daughter died during treatment.
Hayat runs a ration quota shop: Hayat Zafar Hashmi runs a ration quota shop at home and is active on the social platforms of internet media. In the past years, his role in the uproar in Kanpur regarding NRC and CAA also came to the fore. On October 21, he took out a procession from Moolganj to Phulbagh via Meston Road, Shivala Bazar, Ramnarayan Bazar, in which a case was also registered against him.
