The team got a crushing defeat in the match against the team of Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday, 18 May. To keep the hopes of reaching the playoffs alive, Kolkata had to register a win against Lucknow at all costs but the team failed to do so. Now with this defeat, his journey ahead came to an end.
In the 66th match of IPL 2022, Kolkata’s team entered a do or die match against Lucknow. Lucknow captain KL Rahul won the toss and elected to bat and scored 210 runs along with partner Quinton de Kock. The bowlers of Kolkata’s team could not get a single wicket against Lucknow in this match. For the first time in IPL history, a team batted 20 overs without losing a wicket.

Gujarat team first secured their place in the playoffs with 18 points.
