Etawah. A coal-laden goods train going from Kanpur to New Delhi got derailed on Saturday morning before New Ikdil station on the Dedicated Freight Corridor. Railway track was damaged due to overturning of 12 wagons of goods train and traffic on DFC rail route has come to a standstill. After the information about the accident, the technical team including railway officials has reached.
Dedicated Freight Corridor is being constructed by the Railways for freight transport, in which the operation of goods trains was started last year on the line laid in the first phase. A coal laden goods train was passing fast near Medhi Dudhi village before New Ikdil station on Saturday. The wheel of a wagon of a goods train was making noise from several kilometers ago. While passing through here, the wagon derailed and the goods train split into two parts. Some coaches with the engines went forward, while the rear coaches derailed and overturned. As soon as the information of the accident was received, Bharthana police station in-charge Krishan Lal Patel reached the spot and informed the railway officials. Shortly after, the technical team along with senior railway officials reached. Help trains have also been called from Kanpur and Tundla. The officials of New Ikdil station present on the spot are not ready to tell anything yet.
The accident has happened before: Etawah is not the first accident on the DFC route, but after the operation of goods trains on the track, the goods train got derailed in the month of August last year as well. 17 open wagons of a goods train going from Khurja to Kanpur between Jaswantnagar and Balrai, 25 km from Etawah, derailed and some overturned. In this accident, about half a kilometer of railway track was completely uprooted and eight wagons were badly damaged. The DFC team was able to resume the operation of goods trains after several days and a high level inquiry was also conducted into the incident.
