Gorakhpur. The bogie standing in the new washing pit located in the western yard of the railway station was burnt to ashes. The fire brigade had to struggle hard to control the fire. A major accident was averted, but the North Eastern Railway has suffered a loss of about 1.5 crore rupees. The cause of the fire is not yet known. A team of senior railway officials has started investigation into the matter. After the incident, there has been a stir among the departmental officers and employees.

The Sleeper Class Link Halfman Bush (LHB) bogie in the rake of Panvel-Gorakhpur Express was standing in the pit for 24 hours. The scheduled time for its repair and washing was 12 March. According to eyewitnesses, around 12:15 pm, a sudden fire broke out in a bogie parked in the new parking pit. By the time the staff could understand something, the bogie started burning with smoke. Employees tried to douse the fire with available safety equipment and water. The people of Bauliya Colony were also scared seeing the flames that the fire should not spread to the surrounding colonies after getting the support of the wind.

On getting information, railway officials and fire brigade reached the spot. The fire brigade brought the fire under control after a lot of effort. By the time the fire was extinguished at around 1:30 pm, the bogie was completely burnt. A team of officials related to construction, engineering, mechanical, operational and safety has been formed to investigate the cause of the accident.
A committee of officers of the lower administrative grade has been constituted to inquire into the cause of fire in a sleeper coach of a rake that went for cleaning on the new washing pit line.
