Noida: In the Supertech twin tower case, Supertech has assured the Supreme Court that it will return the money of 38 homebuyers by February 28. The court had ordered the demolition of these 40-storey towers considering it to be against the rules. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Suryakant directed Supertech to also settle the bank loans of the home buyers and then return the outstanding money to them. The real estate company said that it will settle with banks and will complete this work by March 31.
The court refused to order the refund of the new amount for some buyers. The court said that since he had already settled the order, he would not be allowed to enter into a fresh settlement. The court had ordered on August 31, 2021 that Supertech should return the money to the home buyers, pay 12 per cent interest on it and not deduct tax. But earlier some of the buyers had entered into an agreement to get the money back after leaving the flat. However, the court had given relief to those who have not come to the court to get the money back.
The court will hear the matter of demolition of towers on Monday. A contract has been signed with a Mumbai-based company for the demolition of the tower and the Noida Authority has given all the clearances for it.
Let us tell you that on January 21, the Supreme Court had ordered real estate major Supertech to refund the money taken from home buyers in Twin Towers by February 28. The Supreme Court had on August 28 last year declared the Twin Towers illegal and ordered the demolition. About 18 people who bought the house had filed contempt petitions in the Supreme Court. In these petitions, the real estate developer was accused of inaction. In fact, it (Supertech) had to return the original amount deposited along with 12% interest to the flat buyers till the date of payment.
