Lucknow. After the recovery of Rs 65 lakh from hawala traders caught on Friday during checking in Gonda, the Income Tax Department team raided the places and establishments of five businessmen of Rakabganj area late last night. An amount of more than three crores is reported to have been seized. The arrested businessmen are accused that they are related to hawala business.
During interrogation of the arrested people, it was found that this amount was brought from Lucknow, then on their behest, the IT officers searched the four-storey building behind a Dharamshala located at Nehru Cross, several buildings located at Subhash Marg, Shastri Nagar and Rakabganj. The raids, which started on Saturday night, continued till late Sunday night. In questioning the traders, the businessmen told that these people are tenants in our flat and house. When the officers of the Income Tax team asked for proof of tenancy, a grocer provided them with the necessary things including the agreement. After this the Income Tax team started questioning other businessmen. When the information about the search of other tenants was taken by the Income Tax officials. According to sources, the locks of the rooms of the closed buildings were opened in the evening. So a huge amount of money was recovered.
