Bijnor. The Mahant of the ancient Kali temple was brutally murdered on Friday night at the Ganga Ghat in Nangalsoti, Bijnor. His body was found lying near the toilet. There are serious head injuries. It is suspected that the miscreants killed Maharaj while carrying out the robbery incident. Goods have been found in the building. The incident came to light when the devotees reached the temple in the morning. Sensation spread on Saturday morning after 60-year-old Mahant Ramdas of the ancient Kali temple at Nangal Soti Ganga Ghat was found dead body near the toilet in the temple premises. A large number of villagers gathered on the spot on information. The incident was reported to the police.
SHO Ravindra Kumar reached the spot along with the police force and took the body in possession and sent it for post-mortem. The contents of the temple building in which the Mahant used to live have been found in complete disrepair. It is being feared that the Mahant has been put to death while carrying out the robbery incident. According to the villagers, the Mahant was serving in the Kali Devi temple for about 18 years. The local villagers had brought him from Haridwar. He lived alone in the temple premises. The Mahant is originally said to be a resident of Gorakhpur. The police is trying to trace his Gorakhpur address. Additional Superintendent of Police, Nagar Praveen Ranjan visited the spot and got information and gave necessary instructions.
The police have found a pair of silver anklets from an incident. They are being investigated. It has been told that a youth of the village was more close to the Mahant. Often he was in their service. In the morning, he reached the temple and informed the people about the incident. Police are interrogating the youth and a local woman in custody.
People present at the spot said that Mahant had suffered a serious head injury. There was blood on the head and face of the Mahant. It is suspected that the Mahant was killed after being hit on the head with a heavy object. After this a quilt was put on the dead body.
