Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh government has become very serious about the increasing air pollution as the weather changes. The government has banned the sale and use of firecrackers that increase air pollution.
This time only green firecrackers will be sold in Uttar Pradesh on Diwali. Apart from these, the sale of other firecrackers will be prohibited. Additional Chief Secretary, Home Avnish Kumar Awasthi informed that the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board is monitoring the air quality in 27 cities of the state these days. From January to September in the year 2021, these include Lucknow, Kanpur, Hapur, Agra, Sonbhadra, Gajraula, Meerut, Khurja, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Varanasi, Noida, Firozabad, Jhansi, Khurja, Prayagraj, Meerut, Moradabad, Bareilly, Rae Bareli, Mathura, Saharanpur, Gorakhpur, Unnao, Greater Noida, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Aligarh and Ayodhya air quality level was found to be moderately polluted.
He said that the Supreme Court in its order dated July 23, 2021 has clarified that if the air quality of the area is slightly polluted or good, then the concerned authorities can allow the sale and use of green crackers. In view of the directions of the Supreme Court and the circumstances of Kovid-19, the government has decided to allow the sale and use of green crackers in the state for the prescribed time limit. The Home Department has issued an order in this regard. Additional Chief Secretary, Home says that instructions have been given to all DMs regarding the sale and use of firecrackers. At the district level, the DM will decide the time limit for the sale and use of green crackers. The Supreme Court on Friday said the celebration cannot take place at the cost of the health of others and clarified that while the use of firecrackers is not completely banned, fireworks containing barium salts are prohibited. Warning that top officials at various levels will be ‘held personally liable’ for any lapse, the top court said it was unfortunate that despite various directions issued, a clear violation was taking place.
The UP Home Department said that in areas where the air quality will be medium or better, the use of green crackers will be allowed. The Yogi Adityanath government on Friday banned the sale and use of firecrackers in the National Capital Region (NCR) and other areas where the air quality is in the poor category. In an order issued by the Home Department of UP, it was said that in areas where the air quality is medium or better, the use of green crackers will be allowed. Additional Chief Secretary Home Avnish Kumar Awasthi said that detailed guidelines have been issued to the district and police administration officers regarding the sale and use of firecrackers. Those crackers, which reduce pollution and are better for the environment. They are called green crackers. Green crackers are specially prepared and through these, pollution is reduced by 30 to 40 percent. Green crackers do not contain harmful chemicals that promote air pollution. In these aluminium, barium, potassium nitrate and carbon are not used or their quantity is very less. Their use can be prevented from increasing air pollution.
