The cyclonic storm Gulab formed over the Bay of Bengal has been warned to move towards Odisha and southern parts of West Bengal. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings in both these states. In many districts of these two states, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in the next three days, the Meteorological Department has issued a high alert regarding this. ODRF team has been sent to Odisha as well as NDRF team has also been sent.
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena said the government has sent rescue teams to vulnerable areas and asked officials to evacuate people from low-lying areas. Fire personnel along with 42 teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Task Force (ODRAF) and 24 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been sent to seven districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Raigad, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal.
Hurricane Rose can cause huge destruction
The IMD has warned and cautioned, “Many low-lying areas will be submerged in the identified districts. There is a possibility of flash floods in the hilly areas of the southern region of Odisha. Heavy to very heavy rains may occur in urban areas of Ganjam and Puri and heavy to very heavy rains in some parts. Have been warned.
High waves will occur in the sea during the next three days and fishermen in Odisha, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh have been asked not to venture into the sea over east-central and northeastern Bay of Bengal from September 25 to 27.

GK Das, Director, IMD Kolkata has said that a Cyclonic Circulation is very likely to form over northeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal. In subsequent 24 hours, it will be a low pressure area and it is likely to reach West Bengal coast around September 29.
Das said the weather activity is likely to increase over South Bengal from September 28 to 29, especially in terms of heavy rainfall and wind. On September 28, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, Howrah, Hooghly.
Odisha’s Special Relief Commissioner said….
Odisha’s Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena said that Ganjam is expected to be severely affected by this cyclonic storm and for this 15 rescue teams have been deployed in the area. Apart from this, 11 teams of fire brigade, six teams of ODRAF and 8 teams of NDRF have been asked to be ready to deal with the emergency.
The district administrations of Gajapati and Koraput have canceled holidays on 25 and 26 September. District Collectors have directed the government officials and employees to stay in their respective headquarters to deal with any emergency.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression over the north and central parts of the Bay of Bengal has moved westwards at a speed of 14 kmph. The deep depression was located 510 km east-southeast of Gopalpur and 590 km east of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh at 8.30 am on Saturday.
IMD said, ‘It is likely to move towards north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur around Kalingapatnam by the evening of 26 September. Wind speed up to an hourly speed is expected.
Heavy rain alert issued in these areas today
On Sunday, light to moderate rain at most places and heavy to very heavy rain at some places is likely over South Odisha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Heavy rain may also occur in the northern hinterlands of Odisha, Telangana and Chhattisgarh on Sunday. Similarly, IMD has forecast light to moderate rain at most places and heavy at isolated places over Odisha and Telangana for September 27 along with heavy rain at isolated places over Coastal West Bengal.
