Flood havoc continues in Gorakhpur-Basti division. Rivers like Rapti, Rohin, Saryu etc. are flowing above the danger mark. Panic has spread in the coastal villages due to the breach of the Rohin river dam in Maharajganj. People were seen looking for safe shelter. Hundreds of villages are surrounded by floods. Crops have been ruined. Boats had to be deployed due to disruption of traffic.
Rapti-Rohin, Gorra and Saryu are flowing above the danger mark in Gorakhpur. The water of Kuano is also increasing rapidly. 176 villages have been affected due to floods in the rivers. Half a million people are being destroyed. 7000 hectares of crops have been destroyed. More than 200 boats have been deployed. After Sadar area of Maharajganj district, the dam of Rohin river in Mazhar area of Laxmipur broke at Semarhwa of Gauharpur. Leakage started in Domra Jardi dam of Rohin river in Paniyara area. This caused a stir in the border villages. DM Dr. Ujjwal Kumar, SP Pradeep Gupta visited the flood affected areas by steamer. NDRF team carried out rescue operation. Old people, children were sent to a safe place. On Monday, 3 lakh 53 thousand 800 cusecs of water was discharged from Balmikinagar barrage into the Gandak river at 4 pm. The water level of Rapti river is flowing above the danger mark at Rigauli dam in Dhani area.
Rivers crossing the red mark causing havoc
The flood situation in Siddharthnagar district is getting dire. Except Banganga, all the rivers are causing havoc by crossing the red mark. Flood waters are drowning new villages and roads every day. The waste water from the Chanaraiya-Kukurbhukwa dam of Uska area is overflowing and coming into Jamuar, which is also threatening the district headquarters. The water level of Badi Gandak river in Kushinagar is increasing these days. The water level was found to decrease till Sunday afternoon, but the water level increased from evening till late night. Late night, it was reported that more than 5 lakh cusecs of water was released from Valmiki Gandak barrage. After this information, the district administration remained on high alert from Khadda Tehsil area to Tamkuhiraj Tehsil area. Half a dozen villages of Reta Kshetra of Khadda tehsil are still under flood water. The risk of spreading infectious diseases has also increased.
Pressure on the embankments
With the rise in the water level of Rapti and Gorra in the Rudrapur area of Deoria, the river has intensified the pressure on the embankments. In view of the cutting of Rapti near Gaighat, the department has started flood fighting. The danger of flood has increased in 52 villages of Dwaba due to the seepage of Gorra water near Ratanpur on Monday. Rapti is also continuously putting pressure on the bandh. On the other hand, Saryu is flowing above the danger mark in Barhaj. The coastal areas are mild due to the rise in the water level of Saryu in the settlement. Saryu and Rapti are flowing above the danger mark in Sant Kabir Nagar too.
