Noida. Under Lastmile Connectivity, the authority has decided to buy and operate 350 electric bikes. City dwellers will be able to rent it at the rate of Rs 2 per minute. The scheme is being launched next month. For this, the authority has made docking points i.e. parking places at 62 establishments including Sector-6, 14, 16A Film City, 38A, 60, 62, 63, 67.
The authority official said that this decision has been taken in view of the increasing demand for electric bikes among the residents of the city. For this, talks are being held with the firms that sell such bikes. This type of service is going on in Delhi and Gurugram. The authority will select an agency to operate the bikes.
It will create a mobile application connecting vehicles and parking spots. Users will be able to use it easily. It has not yet been decided how many bikes will be driven from each darkening station. The application will help in booking e-bikes, paying rent and maintaining records of the company. The authority will get revenue from the scheme. The company operating the bikes will be given the right to advertise about 50 square feet at the postal stations, so that it will operate and maintain the bikes.
Better option to cover short distance
Metro, bus services are there to meet the city’s public transport needs, but covering short distances is a challenge as commuters have to resort to sharing space on e-rickshaws, autos, cycle-rickshaws. Not only this, they also have to face traffic jams. In view of this, the authority is coming up with an e-bike scheme, so that short distances can be covered easily.
