Dehradun. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat, after submitting his resignation to the Governor late on Friday night, said that he has resigned from his post due to constitutional reasons regarding the by-election. He also expressed his gratitude to the national leadership of BJP.
After handing over the resignation letter to Governor Baby Rani Maurya in Raj Bhavan, Tirath Singh Rawat told reporters at the Bijapur guest house that I am coming after resigning. He said that there was a situation of constitutional crisis due to Section 151 of the Representation of the People Act and Section 164 of the Constitution. In view of this, he thought it appropriate to resign from his post.
He said that the central leadership has given him the responsibilities of MLC, MLA, State BJP President, MP and then even Chief Minister from time to time. He expressed his gratitude to senior party leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah for this. When asked about not contesting the by-election from Salt seat of the assembly in the past, he said that then he was in the grip of corona infection. As a result they did not have time.
Steps taken as per the decision of the constitutional body
State BJP President Madan Kaushik told reporters that the Election Commission is a constitutional body. The commission has decided that in view of the circumstances of Kovid, elections cannot be held. According to the decision taken by this constitutional body, the Chief Minister resigned. He said that a new leader would be elected in the meeting of the BJP Legislature Party on Saturday. The leader will be selected from among the sitting MLAs.
