Chandigarh Kovid cases in Punjab are steadily on the rise, with state Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday ordering a complete ban on political gatherings by April 30, saying cases will be registered under the DMA and Pandemic Act against violators, including political leaders. The Chief Minister also announced the extension of the night curfew from 9 am to 5 am. It was earlier implemented in 12 districts of the state, now it has been implemented in the entire state. The number of attendees at funerals and weddings has been reduced to 50 in indoor and 100 in outdoor.
It is mandatory for all government employees to wear masks in the office.
He said that it is a matter of concern that more than 85 per cent of cases in Punjab are of UK strains, which are more contagious and dangerous.
He ordered the police and the district administration to file cases against the organizers and participants of the gatherings, including the owners of the tent, who organize such ceremonies.
He said that even the owners of the venue, who will provide space for such events, will not be spared. A case will be registered against them and their locations will be sealed for three months.
He further said that no social, cultural or sports ceremonies and related ceremonies will be allowed until 30 April.
The Chief Minister also directed Punjab Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta to strictly enforce the night curfew.
