New Delhi. The Delhi High Court on Wednesday said that it is mandatory to wear masks in the vehicle during the Kovid epidemic, even if it is the only driver in the vehicle alone. A single bench of Justice Pratibha M. Singh said that if the vehicles pass through public places, there is a possibility that they may come in contact with other people. “It is mandatory for one or more people on board to wear masks or face covers during an epidemic,” the court said.
Apart from this, the court has rejected the petition challenging the Delhi government to impose fines against the wearers of masks while traveling alone in private vehicles. The court has said that it is necessary to wear a face mask irrespective of whether a person is vaccinated or not. The court reserved judgment in the case on 17 February.
The High Court termed the mask as a ‘protection shield’ (a shield) to prevent the spread of coronaviruses. It also stated that “it not only protects the person wearing the mask but it also protects others. Wearing a mask is a measure that has saved millions of lives.”
One of the petitioners, lawyer Saurabh Sharma, also demanded compensation of Rs 10 lakh in return for a fine of Rs 500 imposed for not wearing a mask. The court said that the petitioners are lawyers and they should not question the measures taken to prevent the epidemic.
